Today we looked around the area for plants that smelt and made scents with them. We ground them in a pestle and mortar to break them down and added water. We then sieved them and guessed which scent was from which plant. We made perfume out of oranges and lemons, rosemary, lilac, daphne and bluebells.
Tree bark is a great way to identify trees in the winter.
Today we used a ‘Mouli’ to sieve our winter vegetable soup. It was very delicious !
A catkin is a pollen head – a flower without the petals !
The wind blows the pollen around and pollinates other trees.
We found three trees with catkins in our playground. See if you can find them too.
