We made the most of all the space in the park and did a lot of running and climbing.
We found a lot of spider webs around the school. We learnt about how and why spiders spin webs and made our own giant web out of wool. It was very difficult, spiders are very talented.
We had a great time Autumn foraging to make letters for the forest school sign.
We then made the most of all the space and played lots of running games!
Now the Summers over, its time to gather seeds to plant next year. We have been harvesting Fennel seeds, Nasturtiums, Marigold and Hollyhock. From the few Sunflowers we had, we have collected thousands of seeds and are now drying them out to store over winter, ready to plant in the Spring.
These are some of the plants that are growing this month. We picked some, putthem in a tub of water and froze them. Then bashed them with rolling pins to get the plants out!!
The teasels are flowering and are becoming stripey. Very much like the bumble bees that are coming to visit them.
Our pond area is full of dragon flies, mayflies and damsel flies. We have been watching how they fly and hover. They can fly up to 60 mph !
We then made our own out of pegs and tracing paper, carefully drawing in all the veins in the wings. Lastly we stuck on the huge eyes. Most of a dragonflies’s head is eye! They have amazing vision which makes them efficient hunters.
Today we smashed leaves and flowers with rolling pins to make these wonderful prints.
Today we learnt how to tie a reef knot and used it to attach a shelter to posts in the forest school area.
We also scattered fennel and Aquilegia seeds over the wildflower area and planted Hollyhocks in pots to go in the greenhouse.
We are looking at what is happening in our forest school area. Everything is growing !
We had a look at all the things that have been planted and the things that are growing wild.
It is very warm weather and not raining enough so we watered all our plants that are in the containers and our new wildflower garden.
